Group newsletter for May 2009.

We continue to gain new members every month, with lots of enquiries bout the group and what we do, We managed to obtain more funding that enable us to buy the office equipment we needed....Thanks TO MOVING ON LANCASHIRE....

This highlights that Dads and their children in West Lancashire are benefitting from the great activities and friendships that are made within the group; The football events in May were a huge success with 27 dads, stepdads , male carers and their children having a great morning....we even had some mums on the touchline!!!

Thanks to  one of our qualified coaches Laura from Burscough for supporting this great event

During the latter end of May we visited the maps challenge centre over in Skelmersdale for a fun packed morning of Physical activity on the assault course, additionally we are also sending 6 Dads and their children on  a residential trip to smelt mill during half term, they will be enjoying the great outdoors , archery, climbing wall, and orienteering..(working in partnership with North West Fathers Network and Lancashire college) ...Watch this space for picture and information...coming soon!

March

In early March we had a great time at the Annual F.A.C.E. Grand Prix held at the Engine rooms; What a fantastic turnout, 14 Dads/Male carers and 17 children, 2 hours of fast paced fun on the scalextric track followed by lunch....feedback from all that attended.... it was a superb event ,  everyone really enjoyed the morning...the kids loved it!!!

The winners were Zak Anderson and his racing Partner Dave Bankier......look at the pictures in the gallery.

In February  4 Dads and their children attend a weekend of activities at Borwick Hall just on the edge of the lake district. The activities on offer were assault course, canoeing, archery, wall climbing and orienteering, All the dads and kids enjoyed a really fantastic weekend of fun. It was wet and muddy but the kids did not mind,  they just laughed at dad attempting the activities.......  Fantastic

Thanks to Lancashire college for funding the Residential weekend.

February

Last week the group watched "space chimps" at the cinema in Wigan, the children and their dads had a chimptastic time!

We are busier than ever at the moment planning spring football coaching sessions, organising fun days out and planning to get the message out to all parents about the importance of diet and exercise for 5-13 olds. The football coaching sessions will be held in Burscough, Ormskirk and Skelmersdale.

During March we will also be encourageing Males and their children to engage with their local childrens centres so that we can film them undertaking pre planned activities.... Watch this space.

January

In light of the current  financial climate, credit crunch everybody is feeling the pinch; We need your help!!! This a request OR WISH  for a local business to sponsor the group by offering a new or refurbished laptop with wirelss capabilities, this would help the group with our admin, accounts and communications.

October

The group had a fantastic day out on the 26th Oct at the JJB Stadium watching Wigan Athletic V Aston Villa; 25 Dads and children braved a cold and wet afternoon in Wigan. The latics were 1-0 down at half time and in the second went down  a further 3 goals final score Wigan 0 Aston Villa 4.

The score was disappointing however it was exciting to see the children and their dads having agreat time, once again a big thanks to all of the Dads and children that continue to support the group.

A special Thank you to Wigan Athletic for making this enjoyable afternoon possible!

September

Thanks to all the fathers and children that continue to support the group, we are going from strength to strength and will continue to plan future monthly events, so watch this space. If you want to be involved in organising the monthly events or have ideas on what we can do, get in touch or come along to the monthly meeting.

Unfortunately we were unable to plan an event for September, we had hoped to start a Saturday morning movie club, but due to the cost involved in obtaining the correct licence for showing films from the local council we had to cancel, however we have not given up and are looking for additional funding, if you can help the group to purchase the licence via funding or donations please get in touch, All we need is £200 quid!!!

Watch this space for the next Saturday morning event, We hope to plan it for the 20th of September, venue to be confirmed.
